Northpharm and health partners maintain medicine access in flood emergency
Northpharm has worked alongside health agencies and emergency services in a co-ordinated joint effort to maintain continuity of medicine supply to communities and patients cut off by the ongoing flood emergency in the Northern Territory.
Despite significant disruption and flood damage to its own pharmacies, the Northpharm team has worked in partnership with the Northern Territory Government, Northern Territory Health, ACCHOs, community services and police to keep critical medicines flowing to patients in need as part of the broader relief effort.
In a strong example of this collaboration, Northern Territory Government and Northern Territory Police provided escorts to Northpharm teams so they could access their flood-affected premises to retrieve medicines for urgent delivery to stranded communities and patients.
As part of the broader emergency response, Northpharm’s pharmacy network has supported flood operations by:
Processing urgent patient-specific orders to isolated patients and remote towns
Preparing advance medication orders for the Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service Clinic and Kalano Aged Care.
Ensuring continuity of supply of medication to Katherine patients at Royal Darwin Hospital
Supplying evacuation medication to patients from Palumpa and Daly River.
Northpharm Chief Pharmacist Sze Lim says Northpharm will continue to provide all support necessary to ensure continuity of medicine and care to patients during this challenging time.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this emergency, and it is our priority to ensure patients continue to receive the medications they depend on,” Sze said.
“Our teams and partners have shown extraordinary commitment to maintaining continuity of care for remote communities during this emergency.
“This shows the value of working together and the strength of our partnerships with government agencies, health services and our pharmacy network.”
Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service Acting CEO Nathan Rosas praised Northpharm for their dedication to meeting the health needs of their patients.
“Northpharm’s commitment and care during this emergency has been exceptional,” he said.
